About Marvin Labs
Founder-led. London-based. Bootstrapped. Building one thing carefully: an AI research tool for the people who actually do institutional equity research.
Why Marvin Labs exists
Anyone who has done equity investing in the last fifteen years and has even a faint technical inclination has played around with getting a computer to read text. Word counting. Dictionary-based sentiment. Topic models. NLP pipelines stitched together over a weekend. The proposition was always obvious: use the machine on the qualitative side of research, the way it already helps on the quantitative side. Ratios, screens, factor models, backtests. All of that was handed to the computer decades ago. The text was still yours to read.
None of it worked well enough to trust.
Modern large language models moved the problem from impossible to very hard. Over the last twelve months, an AI tool that holds up inside an institutional-grade investment process has moved from very hard to workable. Marvin Labs exists to ship the workable version, with the rough edges removed.
What we build
One thing, carefully. Marvin Labs is an AI research tool for institutional equity analysts that turns filings, earnings calls, and press releases into material insights, with every output traceable back to the source passage it came from.
The reason for narrowing to one thing is that the surface where AI is useful in research is also the surface where it is easiest to be wrong. A summary that is 95% right and 5% confidently wrong is worse than no summary, because the wrong 5% will end up in front of a PM. The product is built around the discipline of citing every claim back to a primary document, and that discipline doesn't generalise across product categories. So we don't try.
If you want to see how we think about the difference between a polished AI output and a useful one, the Deep Research Agents page is the right place to start.
Who builds it
Marvin Labs Limited is a London-based UK entity, founded in early 2024 and run by its founder.

Alex Hoffmann, founder and CEO
Alex Hoffmann is the founder and CEO. Five years in credit structuring and investments at Credit Suisse. Six years as co-founder and CTO of TNX Logistics, exited via trade sale. Three years in special-situations investing at SIG-i Capital. The same pattern showed up in every seat: too much of the day spent reading documents to get to the work that actually generated value. Marvin Labs is the tool he wishes had existed in any of them.
A small team ships the product, with AI doing a lot of the engineering heavy lifting. That cadence is itself part of the answer to what the product is for.

How we fund what we build
Proudly bootstrapped. Marvin Labs has no outside investors, which keeps the roadmap accountable to one constituency: the analyst using the tool. Pricing is published on the pricing page, the free Evaluation plan covers 15 companies, and there is no sales call required to try the product.
Strategic advisors
Marvin Labs works closely with senior financial services leaders who advise on product, customer, and distribution strategy.
- Steven Carroll: 25 years in financial information services, most recently Head of Customer Strategy and Execution at LSEG. Deep expertise in the content sets and desktop tools that buy-side and sell-side analysts use every day. Based in London. Read the appointment announcement.
- James Yerkess: A decade at HSBC as Global Head of Transactional Banking and Foreign Exchange, and founder of two UK neo-banks. Advises on wealth management and fintech go-to-market.
What we believe
A few positions that show up everywhere in the product:
- Analysts want tools, not replacements. The work of forming an investment view is the part the analyst is paid to do. AI should handle the document processing that steals time away from that work.
- Sources matter. Every insight the product produces links back to the primary document. If a user cannot click through to a paragraph in a 10-Q or a timestamp in an earnings call, the insight is not defensible.
- Workflow fit beats headline features. An analyst who already has a Bloomberg terminal and a research process does not need another dashboard. Marvin Labs sits alongside what is already there.
